You are receiving this email because your program is certified or has submitted a request to be certified as a residential setting for youth who have been or are at risk of becoming victims of sex trafficking or commercial sexual exploitation.
Programs certified as a residential setting for youth who have been or are at risk of becoming victims of sex trafficking or commercial sexual exploitation must have staff complete a specific training on human trafficking approved by the Department of Human Services' Children and Family Services Administration (see, Minnesota Statutes, section 245A.25, subdivision 5, paragraph (f) for the specific requirements). According to this statute, programs certified before January 1, 2022 are to have staff complete this training by January 1, 2022.
Unfortunately, there has been a delay in creating this video training and the training will not be available until later this month or early January. Due to this delay, staff will have three months to complete the training after the training becomes available. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause your program. DHS will notify you as soon as this training is available.
Once this training becomes available, here is what to expect about the training:
- Online video that will be available on demand
- Series of modules that should take less than 4 hours to complete
- Staff will complete post-training assessments and receive a certification(s) of completion
- Staff will be equipped with knowledge and tools to work with youth who have been or are at risk of sex trafficking or commercial exploitation including:
- identifying sex trafficking and exploitation, including recruitment and grooming behaviors
- engaging with trafficked, exploited or at-risk youth in trauma-responsive ways
- establishing and maintaining effective boundaries, relationships, and expectations for trafficked, exploited or at-risk youth
- making appropriate connections and building relationships with Safe Harbor programs, child welfare services, law enforcement, and other providers
- interviews with survivor subject matter experts and experienced service providers who will share examples, best practices, and resources
